Meet the Founder
Jim Elter
Jim Elter founded Elter Building Systems in 1983 with a goal of providing engineered building solutions to meet customers’ needs and budgets. We still use the design and build approach he developed in the 1970s to plan, design and construct buildings that best suit our clients’ requirements and satisfy their budgets.
From the beginning, Jim set out to provide top-quality buildings and re-roofing services paired with design and construction management services for business owners and developers. By subcontracting the general trade work, as well as the specialty work, Jim realized he could offer a more competitive price without sacrificing quality. Elter still finds this philosophy relevant today. Jim also enjoys contributing to the communities he serves, and has been a member of the Rotary Club since 1981.
Meet the Chairman
Joe Harkleroad
Joe Harkleroad, the owner and Chairman of the Board of Elter Construction, is responsible for bringing the vision and business plan of Elter Construction to life. Since he purchased his first property in 1978, he has built two community-centered, ministry-minded companies in Ohio — a full-service design-build construction management firm, and a residential and commercial property management firm.
As an active member of the local business community, Joe’s professional memberships include the Dayton Chamber of Commerce and the Cedarville Chamber of Commerce. Joe also sits on the Boards of the Greene County Community Foundation (past president), Greene County Community Improvement Corp. (president), and the Greene County Port Authority. Related development projects range from Creekside Condominiums to Meadows of Cedarville.
